About Barb

As a dental hygiene educator and clinical hygienist working in orthodontics for over 28 years, my experiences in orthodontics lead me to broaden my knowledge into myofunctional therapy. 

You will find as we get to know each other, my interest in your overall health including but not limited to breathing, lip postures, tongue postures, and corrective swallowing will help me in designing sessions that will support you in making improvements and reduce habits through therapy.     

Benefits of Myofuntional Therapy

Myofunctional Therapy is a treatment that involves exercises to improve tongue placement, breathing, speaking, chewing, and swallowing.

  • ·Correcting and improving tongue and lip postures 

  • Correct swallowing patterns

  • Nasal breathing

  • Lip Seal

  • Assisting in the stabilization of the teeth during and/or after orthodontic treatment 

  • Identifying the need and referring for Speech 

Services

To restore normal function, we will focus on 4 Goals: Breath, Lip Posture, Tongue Posture and Correct Swallowing.

Introductory Consultation

  • Pt history and assessment

  • 45-60 minutes

Comprehensive Evaluation

 Thorough and detailed Myofunctional Therapy exam for children and/or adults

  • Patient History

  • Speech & Oral Postures

  • Dental History

  • Clinical Evaluation

  • ·Sleep Inquiry

  • 60 minutes (can vary depending on findings)

Myofunctional Therapy Sessions

  • Comprehensive Therapy for Children (4 years and older) and Adults

  • 12 Sessions

  • Sessions can vary

  • Pre and Post Frenectomy/Frenuloplasty

  • 1 hour
